Position Summary
Provides learning activities and support that leads to student achievement of course objectives and contributes to the educational environment of the Lone Star College System and community. Responsibilities include learning facilitation, personal and professional development, and institutional and community service.
Required Qualifications
· MA or MFA in Art, Studio Art, or Art Education, or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in studio or art education.
· Online certification or a commitment to obtain certification through LSC-Online (or equivalent) within 6 months of employment.
· Experience teaching 2D-Design 1 and Art Appreciation.
· At least one year of experience teaching at the college level.
Preferred Qualifications
· MFA
· Focus on 2D art within graduate degree program
· Experience teaching online
Salary
Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications. This is a full-time position with a 10.5-month work schedule. Start date is Fall 2012

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - FOUNDING ACADEMIC DEAN
The Southwest School of Art, a private institution located on a scenic and historic, 5 acre campus in downtown San Antonio, Texas, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Academic Dean.
In 2013, the first cohort of a new Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program will begin classes at the Southwest School of Art. While significant progress has been made on policy and curriculum development, scheduling, student recruiting, and fundraising for scholarships, the founding Dean will be responsible for finalizing this planning and for successful implementation of it, while establishing the value of the program.
The Southwest School of Art was founded in 1965 as a community art school and moved to its present location, the former Ursuline Convent and Academy, San Antonio’s first school for girls, in 1971. In 1998 an adjacent facility for instruction studios and exhibition spaces was opened, and additional property has since been acquired for future expansion. State of the art instruction studios include: ceramics, book arts, drawing and painting, printmaking, fabric design, papermaking, 3-D, photography and digital media, metals, and fibers. Full-time and part-time faculty members are practicing artists who are active in their respective fields, locally, regionally, and nationally.
Widely known for outstanding exhibitions of regional, national and international artists, the Southwest School of Art has also received commendation for its youth programs, community collaborations, and historic preservation. Financially stable and with dependable support from individuals and foundations, the Southwest School of Art has earned a reputation for organizational and programmatic excellence.
The Southwest School of Art is a dynamic participant in the economic and cultural vitality of San Antonio, a city of 1.2 million with a distinctive and energetic art scene. With the addition of the BFA program, the Southwest School of Art will become the only independent college of art in Texas.
Position summary
The founding dean is responsible for the management of the BFA degree program and reports directly to the president. He/she administers all BFA-related policies and procedures and encourages an environment conducive to excellence in teaching, learning, and scholarly and creative achievement. He/she oversees academic advising, registration, scheduling, and other academic support services, as well as instructional facilities and academic information systems. The Academic Dean is responsible for evaluation and assessment, resolution of faculty and student issues, and the development of new programs to meet changing needs.
Essential Functions
1. Promotes student enrollment, the development of resources, and general visibility of the Southwest School of Art
2. Ensures accreditation and meets state and federal criteria
3. Implements all related policies and procedures
4. Oversees curricula and scheduling of all BFA courses and programs
5. Analyzes and projects relevant budgets
6. Hires and evaluates department chairs, key faculty, and relevant staff
7. Communicates frequently and effectively with faculty and staff
8. Promotes excellence in teaching, service, and professional growth
9. Responds to the needs of faculty, staff, and students
10. Leads faculty and staff in strategic planning processes
11. Gathers, organizes, and analyzes data related to the BFA courses and programs
Qualifications
1. MFA or PhD
2. Administrative experience in visual arts at an accredited college or university
3. Teaching experience and/or record of scholarly achievement
4. Ability to motivate donors, faculty, and staff
5. Experience with budgets and financial analysis
6. Experience with curriculum development, planning, and assessment
7. Experience with accreditation processes
8. Knowledge and experience in the area of academic personnel policy.
9. Knowledge and experience of faculty development
10. Strong administrative, interpersonal, and communications skills
11. Demonstrated capacity to be a self-starter
The successful candidate will also have broad familiarity with the basic disciplines of undergraduate instruction in art and design and related academic subjects, including some acquaintance with the teaching and practice unique to each discipline.
Preference will be given to those candidates with experience as a dean and to those who have achieved recognition as a scholar and/or visual artist.

Juried Show - 7th Annual Human Rights Art Exhibition
This year's exhibition is in collaboration with the 2012 Women's Studies
Conference on Labor Trafficking & Migration. The concept of the art
however can be related to any type of human rights issues. Submission
