We are headed to Austin, TX for the 42nd Annual TASA conference, to be hosted by St. Edward's University. The 2010 conference theme, Art + Community, explores the open exchange of ideas, influences, policies and actions that artists and communities engage in both at the local and global level. We hope to explore the reciprocal relationships between art and community, with sub-themes ranging from environmental issues, green art and recycling to social activism, collaboration and community art. This theme also closely relates to values found in the St. Edward's University mission. St. Edward's has three distinguishing characteristics: the courage to take risks, an international perspective, and the commitment to provide educational opportunities for students of varied cultural, religious, educational and economic backgrounds. Students at St. Edward's are helped to understand themselves, clarify their personal values and recognize their responsibility to the world community. We are excited to be able to bring the members of TASA to Austin for a fun-filled and exciting conference.

CALL FOR ART HISTORY/THEORY PAPERS - AUSTIN CONFERENCE 2010
The Texas Association of Schools of Art (TASA) is accepting proposals for presentations at its Annual Conference: April 8-10, 2010 in Austin.
[FYI: a direct reference to this is not required, but conference theme will be Art and Community: a shared dialog of green art, social activism, collaboration and community art.]
We invite art historians, artists, art theoreticians, critics and philosophers to submit proposals in any of their areas of interest that might appeal to TASA members. Non-members who teach in art in Texas colleges and universities may qualify for submission of a proposal by simply joining TASA ($20 individual membership; please go to www.tasart.org to download a membership form).
We encourage the use of slides, PowerPoint or other visual aids. Extemporaneous presentations are generally better received than formal readings. Up to three papers will be presented and each speaker will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation with a question and answer period at the end.
If you are interested in participating as a speaker, please send an abstract of your proposal (electronic if possible) or a complete paper to Dr. Scott Robinson by December 8, 2009. We also need a brief bio and jpeg photograph of you (to use in the pre-conference online newsletter if you are selected). At least one university art history professor and the TASA president will review all proposals. Notices of acceptance and rejection will be sent during January 2010.
